For a brief moment, the two trains ran side by side. In that suspended instant, Elspeth McGillicuddy looked out of her carriage window and saw a terrifying scene unfold—a man’s hands tightening around a woman’s throat. Helplessly she watched as the woman’s body went limp. Then, just as suddenly, the other train sped ahead and the vision vanished.
