Seventeen-year-old Natalie Waite can’t wait to escape to college. At home, she lives under the suffocating control of her domineering, self-absorbed father, a writer who keeps both Natalie and her weary mother firmly under his thumb. Yet once she finally leaves, the freedom she imagined slips quickly out of reach. College life proves disorienting, and Natalie begins to doubt everything she once believed—until the line between reality and her unsettling inner world starts to blur. Dark, atmospheric, and eerily suspenseful, Hangsaman is loosely inspired by the real-life disappearance of a Bennington College sophomore in 1946.
