One Good Thing

Italy, 1940. Lili and Esti have been inseparable since their university days. When Esti’s son, Theo, is born, their friendship deepens into something like sisterhood. Even as war rages across Europe, they manage to carve out moments of ordinary life—until Germany invades Italy and everything they know is upended.

Confident and steadfast, Esti urges Lili to join the resistance. But when their mission goes terribly wrong and Esti is gravely wounded, she makes a desperate request: Lili must flee with Theo and keep him safe—no matter the cost.

Frightened yet determined, Lili embarks on a perilous journey south toward Allied-held territory, guiding young Theo through Nazi-occupied towns, shattered landscapes, and constant danger. With every step, she must summon a courage she never knew she had to protect the child entrusted to her care.
