For twenty years, Rocky has cherished her family’s annual trip to Cape Cod. Their unassuming beach-town rental has hosted it all: sun-soaked afternoons, beloved traditions, fabulous dinners, and every kind of mess imaginable—emotional missteps, marital tangles, and, courtesy of the cottage’s prehistoric plumbing, literal disasters too.
This summer, Rocky finds herself wedged between her almost-grown children and her steadily aging parents, expecting the usual joys of their cherished getaway—except for the unpredictable waves of anger and sorrow brought on by menopause. Her body is shifting, her life is shifting, and when an unexpected series of moments pulls her back into memories of past summers, she’s forced to revisit old joys and long-buried grief.
It’s just one week—fragile, fleeting, perfectly balanced—and yet everything is changing. And as Rocky confronts where her family has been and where they are headed, she realizes she can’t keep her long-held secrets hidden from the people she loves most.
