The Big Clock

George Stroud is a hard-drinking, sharp-tongued writer for a powerful New York media empire modeled on Time, Inc. One evening, before heading home to his wife in the suburbs, he has a drink with Pauline—the beautiful girlfriend of his boss, Earl Janoth. One thing leads to another.

The next day Stroud walks Pauline home, leaving her at the corner just as Janoth returns from a trip. Soon after, Pauline is found murdered in her apartment.

Janoth knows someone saw him enter Pauline’s apartment that night, and he’s determined to find the witness—the man who must have been with her before he arrived. To track him down, he assigns the job to one of his most trusted employees: George Stroud.
