Misplaced boxes, complications with visiting nurses, cryptic notes, even a trip to the county fair—these small disruptions shape the days of the unnamed narrator of The End of the Story as she tries to transform the memory of a past love affair into a novel.
With a blend of compassion, wit, and apparent honesty, she sifts through fragments of recollection in an effort to understand what she truly knows about her past and about herself. Yet as the narrative unfolds, she (and the reader) begins to question the reliability of those memories. In a world where recollection and understanding are always uncertain, any attempt to reconstruct the past may inevitably become an act of fiction.
