Sunho lives in the Under World, a land shrouded in perpetual darkness. An ex-soldier with no memory of his life before two years ago, he wakes alone with only his name and his sword. Now he takes odd jobs to survive—until the opportunity of a lifetime comes his way: a chest of coins for any mercenary who can hunt down a girl who wields silver light.

Far to the east, Ren is a spirited acrobat traveling with her adoptive family, performing at village festivals. Everything changes when a humanlike demon attacks their troupe. In a moment of fear and fury, Ren unleashes a blast of silver light, a power she has hidden since childhood, and kills the creature. But her courage comes too late to prevent tragedy: her family suffers devastating losses, and her beloved uncle is gravely wounded.

Determined to save him from the poison coursing through his veins, Ren journeys over the mountains—the same place she fled a decade ago. Her path soon crosses with Sunho’s, though he does not realize she is the girl he (and countless other mercenaries) has been seeking. As they travel together, their bond deepens, and they begin to uncover the truth: their pasts, their powers, and their destinies are far more entwined than either could have imagined.
