All Systems Red, Artificial Condition.
It hacked its programming. It’d rather be watching soap operas. It might save your life anyway.
Meet Murderbot—a snarky, self-aware SecUnit who’s really bad at being a heartless killing machine. What it is good at? Hacking its own governor module, avoiding eye contact, and binge-watching its favorite media when humans aren’t looking.
In All Systems Red, Murderbot is assigned to protect a team of scientists on a remote planet. It’s a straightforward gig—until a nearby mission goes silent, and the danger gets all too real. Now Murderbot has to pretend to care long enough to keep its clients alive… and maybe discover who—or what—it really is.
Then, in Artificial Condition, Murderbot sets off on its own, teaming up (reluctantly) with an overly curious Research Transport it nicknames ART. Together, they return to the mining colony where Murderbot first went rogue, hoping to dig up answers buried deep in corporate cover-ups and forgotten files.
Funny, fast-paced, and surprisingly heartfelt, The Murderbot Diaries Vol. 1 is the start of a Hugo and Nebula Award–winning series about one security bot’s struggle with freedom, identity, and tolerating humans without committing actual murder.
