Venice, 1899. As the dawn of a new century approaches, Evelyn Dolman—a self-proclaimed literary hack—marries Laura Rensselaer, the headstrong daughter of a wealthy American oil magnate. Expecting a life of ease and inheritance, Evelyn is stunned when a final falling-out between Laura and her father leaves her abruptly disinherited.
In search of distraction and perhaps redemption, the couple travels to Venice to ring in the New Year at the enigmatic Palazzo Dioscuri, the ancestral estate of the charismatic but duplicitous Count Barbarigo. But from the moment they arrive in the mist-shrouded city, strange and unsettling events begin to unfold.
As tensions rise and Laura mysteriously vanishes, Evelyn finds himself spiraling into a world where nothing is quite as it seems. Is the palazzo haunted by more than just secrets? Are the shadows gathering merely coincidence—or something far more sinister? And as reality begins to slip, Evelyn must confront a chilling question: is he unraveling the mystery, or simply losing his mind?
